Aiming to minimize the risk of delays and lack of product at the time of use, the company anticipated its deliveries, especially of Potassium Chloride.
In view of the imminent delay in deliveries and lack of fertilizers in the Brazilian market, especially Potassium Chloride (KCI), which was aggravated by the conflict in Eastern Europe, Fiagril anticipated the delivery of the product to farmers who negotiated with the company in the 2022/2023 harvest. The goal is to ensure that the product, one of the most important raw materials for fertilizers, is available for use at the beginning of soybean planting.
Even being a large world producer of food, Brazil is not self-sufficient in the production of fertilizers, depending on imports for most of what it consumes. Dimensioning this dependence, about 90% of the mineral used in the country is imported, of which approximately 45% comes from Belarus and Russia.
Marcos Castro, Inputs Director at Fiagril, explains that due to the war and economic sanctions applied to the countries involved, maritime shipments in Eastern Europe are suspended. Therefore, the company, aligned with its suppliers, decided to anticipate the deliveries so that its customers would not suffer with delays in the delivery of the fertilizer.
“What we want with the early delivery of fertilizers this year, especially Potassium Chloride, is to give assurance to farmers who negotiated with Fiagril that, even in the face of this critical scenario regarding the war and situations that hinder maritime logistics, we are putting our best efforts so that customers receive their fertilizer at the appropriate time for use. So, together with our suppliers, we are working to fulfill our commitment”, he stated.
A farmer who plants in the region of Sinop (500 km from Cuiabá) reports that he has been a customer of the company for at least four years and emphasizes that this initiative reassures producers. “As we have already received fertilizer for the 2022/23 harvest, we feel very peaceful with the product in our sheds,” he said.
Another customer from the Parecis region (700 km from the capital), celebrates the initiative and the anticipation in the fulfillment of the delivery. He makes it clear that this attitude makes the producer ease to start the new harvest. “In an atypical year like this, finishing the previous harvest, we feel comfortable with all the fertilizers inside the farm. This is very important for our planning,” he pointed out.
Currently, Brazil imports approximately 97 % of the Potassium Chloride – KCl it uses for crop fertilization. It is also the world’s largest importer of this nutrient, with 10.45 million tons purchased in 2019, according to data from the Ministry of Economy.
