Mato Grosso has the largest number of biodiesel plants in operation in Brazil. According to data from the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP), there are 17 production units in operation, one of which is located in the Municipality of Lucas do Rio Verde (334 km from Cuiabá). Operated by Fiagril, it has a capacity of 202 million liters³ per year, produced from vegetable oils, such as soybean.
Due to the relevance of the production parent company of this fuel, considered a cleaner and renewable energy source, August 10th became the International Biodiesel Day. According to Fiagril’s CEO, Henrique Mazzardo, the date is representative to mark the world’s intentions to reduce the emission of pollutants.
“There are several pacts that point to the importance of reducing CO2 emissions, and Fiagril is also allied to this purpose, always working together with the rural producers in the regions where it operates, to stimulate the market, while enabling the expansion of this energy matrix, which is the future,” he considers.
Opened in 2007, the unit was implemented to insert the State in the sustainable energy production route. The plant has a flow capacity of 1,500 meters³ per day. “We paid attention to this direction and installed a headquarters in the heart of the world’s largest grain-producing region”, emphasizes Henrique Mazzardo.
All production is certified by the Bio+ seal of the Brazilian Association of Vegetable Oil Industries (Abiove), which attests to the product’s compliance with the technical specifications of the Air Pollution Control Program for Motor Vehicles (Proconve) of the Ministry of the Environment.
Brazil is the second largest producer of biodiesel in the world, which is one of the best sustainable alternatives to replace fossil fuels that pollute the cities and are one of the causes of climate change. The sector also contributes to social inclusion with more than 98% of the volume commercialized coming from plants with the social biofuel seal.
In the overall, there are 49 production units in the Country. Considering domestic parameters, the production grew by 8.7% in 2020, according to data from the ANP, which in terms of installed capacity, means 9.4% with consumption of 6.4 billion liters.
Fiagril has operated for over 30 years in the origination of grains, distribution of agricultural inputs, and production of biodiesel. Its purpose is to transform lives by connecting sustainable production to the world. Currently, it has 26 units and about two thousand customers.
