Fiagril submits the sustainability report with goals and socio-environmental actions

Transforming lives by connecting sustainable production with the world is Fiagril’s purpose, and in recent years, with the coming of the pandemic, the challenges were even greater because of the economic and social consequences. And for the second consecutive year, the company submits the Sustainability Report 2021 in which it points out the actions and goals aimed at ensuring a responsible performance, focused on environmental and social actions. In this regard, Fiagril became a signatory of the United Nations Global Compact, which reinforces its commitment to sustainability in agribusiness. “A commitment that has been with us for many years. We are active in risk perception and recommendations to customers, in line with the Soy Moratorium guidelines. This reinforces the socio-environmental compliance of our purchases and financing,” explains Henrique Mazzardo, CEO at Fiagril.

However, 2021 was also a year with great impacts on agribusiness, not only because of the pandemic. The market faced a shortage of products, especially inputs, in the second half of the year. “To overcome this problem, which directly affects our core business, we increased direct imports and anticipated shipments, a strategy that proved to be successful,” says Mazzardo.

Besides this, in the grain business, the difficulty was expressed through bad weather, which partially affected the soybean harvest and more strongly affected the corn harvest. As for the biodiesel operation, there were challenges due to the new Federal Government policy, which reduced from 13% to 10% the percentage of this fuel in the diesel oil that is sold at the service stations.

Even in the face of adversity, Fiagril expanded its customer base, consolidated two branches in the State of Tocantins, opened another branch in Alta Floresta, and became one of the top five players in the sector.

In the relationship with the stakeholders of the production and value chain, the priority is that they are aligned with the best market practices.

“We seek to be partners of the communities where we operate, seeking to contribute to the development in a sustainable way, with job generation, income, and economic growth,” says Mazzardo.

For 2022, the year in which the company completes 35 years of history, Fiagril intends to open new branches, not only in the State of Mato Grosso, but also in other states with a similar production profile. “We are confident that we have human capital, financial capital, and strong socio-environmental commitments to grow responsibly and sustainably,” says the CEO.
